Plans to construct a new passenger terminal at Tirana’s Mother Teresa Airport come after a double digit growth in travellers was registered in 2011. According to AENews, 20111 was a good year for the airport as it experienced growth of 18 percent with 1.8 million passengers. As it currently stands, 13 airlines operate from Tirana, and Albania is connected directly with 30 destinations. The new terminal requires investment of €7 million and the airport are reported to begin planning for the expansion in 2012, with completion due in 2013.
The new airport terminal is reflective of the strong future Albania’ tourist trade has and in years to come it is anticipated that many tourists will pass through as they take their holidays in Albania.
